Dehydration can have huge impacts on the elderly, it can be the contributing factor to a person falling, developing a UTI, or being admitted to hospital. There are of course many other issues linked to dehydration, but this video focuses on these three aspects.
Avoiding hospitals is important for older people, and by keeping hydrated a person may mitigate against this by lowering the risk of falling, or developing a UTI.
Drinking 1.5-2 litres a day is the recommended fluid target for older people, which is not always easy as we start to lose our sense of thirst as we age.
